Michael Roemen: “Hey everybody, in today’s video we’re talking with Bret and Denise, two of our Design Assist Specialists about wood waves. There are lots of options and ways to introduce curved ceilings into your space. So let’s dive right into it and see what they have to say.”
Denise Sprenglemeyer: “Architectural wood ceilings provide a warmth and beauty to any space. Our wave series offer a curved ceiling aesthetic to all of our products. Other words for our wave products could be serpentine, undulating or curved. We work with architects and designers on a variety of curves, either convex or concave, in a wide range of radii.”
Assembly Types
Bret Diamond: “One of the great things about our wood wave series is we have a whole range of options to meet your design needs. We have two basic styles; the simplest would be our flexible backer system. They are assembled in our factory, shipped to you and then bent as needed to be installed onsite. Our other series is acoustic wood, reflector tiles, and perf tiles that are assembled in our factory, already pre-curved and ready to install. Feel free to check out our other videos that will give you more detailed information about all those products.”
Species & Finishes
DS: “When it comes to species, there are lots of options. We have many solid wood options for grilles and linears. For our other products, such as tiles and acoustic woods, we use a wide variety of veneer species. We have all of our species options on our website and we can also send sample boxes. We offer three primary finish options: clear, stain or opaque. Our stain tech experts can match your custom color; just send us a color control.”
Suspension & Details
BD: “When it comes to our suspension options, we have three main choices: pre-curved ceiling T-bar, field-cut and bracketed T-bar, and direct hung. By direct hung, we mean the use of wire or aircraft cable that is attached directly to each panel. On our website, we have a ton of information available for you, anything from product specs to CAD drawings, and of course you can reach out to one of our design assist specialists at any time, and we are happy to answer all of your questions.”
Accessibility
DS: “Accessibility is a common question; we have many systems which are fully accessible. We have other systems that are not accessible. If your project has accessibility needs, our team can work with you to design specific access panels. Keep in mind full accessibility carries an extra cost.”
BD: “So when it comes to pricing for our linear and grille waves, we are looking at lower 20s to upper 30s per square foot. Then, for our acoustic wood, reflector tiles, and perf tiles, we’re looking at upper 20s to upper 60s per square foot. There’s a wide range of pricing on our wood wave series because of all the options that are available to you. Does it have perfs or grooves for acoustics? Does it require a pre-attached return or trim? Tile sizes, species and finish? How many radii does the project require? These price ranges do not include installation; as a general rule, to get the install cost, you would double the materials cost.”
Lead-Times
DS: “Typical lead-times are 8-10 weeks for shop drawings and submittals, 8-10 weeks for production, for a total of 16 to 20 weeks.”
BD: “So one of the great things about the wood wave series is that in a design and construction environment of horizontal planes, 45’s and 90’s; the undulations and curves of these wood waves just really pop. They really give a project that wow factor. People notice they are very unique works of art.”
MR: “Bret, Denise, thank you guys for walking us through that. You know, here at 9Wood, wood ceilings are all we do. We are division nine wood ceiling specialists, so check our website for project photos, technical information and other things to help you during your design process. We really appreciate you watching the video today and we’ll see you next time.”
